Banatul SC 0 - 8 FC Bulgaria
FC Bulgaria recorded their biggest win of the season so far, after they trashed last placed Banatul by 8 goals to none. Before we go over the details of the win we want to thank the 3 young ladies who made it possible for Bobby R. to come to the game by taking care of his new born daughter. Their support was noted and we hope to see them again on the sidelines cheering on the lions.
The weather was beautiful for football and the Bulgarians had returned to Met Oval their former field this time as visitors. After an even opening 10 minutes the away side started to take charge of the game. In the 17th minute Joro opened his account for the year. Bobby R. found him in the middle of the part and Iltchev drove a 20 yard shot in the upper middle of the target for 0-1. Only after 5 minutes Bulgaria was 2 goals to the good, Ico found space on the left and his attempted cross was converted into the net by a Banatul defender for an unfortunate own goal. Until the end of the half Galin and Boho missed glorious chances, while Andro was looking very lively on the right supplying the crosses. At the back Doktora was like a wall, clearing everything that the host were throwing at him. The rest of the back four looked really solid as well by cutting down on the silly mistakes from the previous round.
At half time Pepi told his boys to be patient and wait for their opportunity for the 3rd goal, which would have settled the match. The lions didn't have to wait long for the 3rd goal. Ico again beat his marker on the left and crossed the ball deep to the second post where Andro slid in to tackle the ball it was going narrowly wide but Boho tapped in for a simple finish. With the comfortable lead the Bulgarians started attack in waves. Soon it was 4-0, Bobby R. played a beautiful long trough ball for Ico who continued his hot streak by cooly chipping the keeper. At this point the scoring chances were pouring, Mladen missed a sitter from 3 yards out and Boho also wasted a good chance. Doktora was trying to get on the score sheet as well but some poor final passes to him prevented him from opening his account for the season. Andro was having a great afternoon and after a qucik one two with Galin the latter scored into the bottom right corner. The sixth goal was a beauty, Boho crossed from the left for Galin who cushioned the ball nicely to Ivan Minkov, the winger controlled and slid it in left footed. Pepi made a few changes and introduced Svetlyo who got into a scoring position from a great work by Bobby R., but the left back someow dragged his shot wide. The game wasn't over by any means, Mladen gave away a penalty which the hosts missed by hitting the ball over the bar. Koko had to take some credit for unbalancing the shooter. Soon afterwards Galin scored his second of the game after Boho ran into space on the left and crossed for him for the easy tap in. The last goal of the game was after some great movement. Doktora stole the ball at the back and played Ivan M. through who cut the ball back for Boho, for a top corner finish.
The reserve team lost 2-1 this week. Bedo scored his first ever goal for the club to give the lions the lead. But second half goals due to some dubious referee decisions gave the hosts the victory.
