FC Bulgaria 6 - 1 Astoria Gaels
Hristo Kaloferov's hat-trick and a Mladen Mladenov's wonder goal were the main reason for the trashing of the visitors from Astoria. By far this was the best game for the lions so far, and a good way to bounce back from the disheartening defeat to Koha last week.
Under the Sunday sunshine the hosts grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck from the beginning. Fori was making his first appearance for the season in midfield alongside Bobby R. , replacing the suspended Aram. Bobby D. was also starting his first game in his usual right back spot after regaining full match fitness. The lions were ahead after 10 minutes, when Boho fed Ico on the right who caught the keeper napping and surprised with a drive to the near post which was too hard to be held 1-0. After scoring so early everything seemed to click for the Bulgarians, Boho missed a glorious chance with a header after Ico crossed perfectly from the right. On top of that Stenli was guilty of missing a one-on-one with the keeper after an inch perfect through ball from Fori. Ivan Minkov who started on the left also missed a sitter after a good recovery save from the keeper. In the 34th minute however the score was 2-0, after an initial blocked shot from Stenli, Ico was the first one to pounce on it, and continued his hot scoring form. The best for the half was yet to come though. In the 45th Bobby R. passed the ball to Mladen on the left who unleashe a 35 yard scramer into the opposite top corner, to score his first goal in 4 years. The team was delighted with the first half outcome and didn't let their pedal of the gas after the break.
The visitors managed to pull one back in the 55th when Joro's pass was intercepted at the back and a hard shot from the edge of the area beat Koko. Normal service was quickly resumed though, when Ico found some space on the right and he fed Boho who just tapped it in for 4-1. Hungry for goals the hosts continued pressing. A quick one-two between Boho and Ivan Minkov, led to a wonderfull left footed finish by the latter, for his first goal of the season. After the 5th goal both Mladen and Boho were realy close to scoring, but then the in form Ico showed how its done by completing his hat-trick. Fori found him with a long cross field ball, Ico beat the keeper to it and rolled it into the empty net. A 6-1 a very convincing scoreline gives the team a good platform to build on next week against the struggling Banatul.
The reserve team managed their first win of the season against the short handed Astoria Gaels. the scoreline was 3-0, with Stenli scoring twice. Things are coming together in our second string and only some poor finishing by Svetlyo prevented them from scoring more.
